Product Overview

PSD-A1 S is the acid-washed variant of our enhanced coconut shell carbon, combining the superior adsorption capacity of PSD-A1 with the process stability of acid-washed purification. With an iodine adsorption value exceeding 1100 mg/g, surface area above 1000 m²/g, and ash reduced below 3%, this grade targets the most sensitive water treatment applications—including POU drinking water filters, semiconductor rinse water, and electroplating bath maintenance.

The acid-wash step neutralizes surface alkalinity to a pH of 5–8, preventing pH drift in closed-loop systems and protecting delicate downstream equipment. Available in 12×40 mesh and other standard sizes, PSD-A1 S is certified for NSF 61, drinking water, and food production, ensuring compliance across regulated industries.

Key Application Areas

  • Point-of-Use (POU) Drinking Water Filters — Delivers high-capacity chlorine and organic removal in undersink and countertop units while maintaining neutral pH effluent for consumer safety and taste.
  • Semiconductor Ultra-Pure Water — Polishes ultra-pure water for wafer cleaning and wet processing, where trace metals and pH excursions are strictly controlled to prevent yield loss.
  • Electroplating & Surface Finishing — Circulates in plating bath loops to adsorb organic brightener breakdown products without altering bath pH or introducing metallic contaminants that affect deposit quality.
  • Food & Beverage Ingredient Water — Provides the highest purity tier for premium bottled water, craft brewing, and pharmaceutical ingredient preparation where acid-washed purity meets direct-contact standards.

Key Advantages

  • Maximum Capacity + Maximum Purity: The only grade in the PSD-A series combining >1100 mg/g iodine with <3% ash and pH-neutral chemistry, eliminating trade-offs between capacity and purity.
  • Electronics-Grade Compatibility: Acid washing removes leachable ions that could cause conductivity spikes in UPW and plating loops, supporting yield-sensitive manufacturing.
  • POU-Optimized Chemistry: Neutral pH prevents alkaline "spikes" common in standard carbons during initial flush, improving consumer experience in residential filters.
  • Proven Supply Chain: Manufactured from the same traceable coconut shell feedstock as all PSD-A grades, with batch certificates confirming iodine, ash, and pH compliance.

  • Q
Is PSD-A1 S overkill for standard home water filters?
    A

For basic taste and odor improvement, PSD-A0 is sufficient. PSD-A1 S is recommended for high-end POU systems, well water with high organics, or any application specifying acid-washed, pH-neutral media.

  • Q
How does PSD-A1 S compare to imported premium carbons?
    A

PSD-A1 S matches or exceeds the iodine, ash, and hardness specifications of leading international brands while offering localized technical support and shorter lead times.

  • Q
Will the acid wash affect the carbon's ability to remove chloramine?
    A

No. Chloramine removal is primarily a surface-catalytic reaction. The acid wash does not degrade the catalytic sites; in fact, for chloramine-sensitive applications, we recommend PSD-MAC catalytic carbon.

  • Q
What is the recommended pre-rinse procedure for PSD-A1 S?
    A

A 10–15 minute backwash at design flow rates is sufficient to remove any residual fines from packaging. The acid-washed surface requires no special conditioning beyond standard installation practice.
