Product Overview

SRC-A 4mm is an impregnated coal-based columnar activated carbon engineered for targeted removal of hydrogen sulfide and light organic sulfur compounds from gas streams. Manufactured through steam activation of bituminous coal followed by controlled impregnation, the 4 mm pellets develop surface chemistry that promotes both physical adsorption and catalytic oxidation of sulfur species.

With a CTC base activity above 60% and specific surface area exceeding 900 m²/g, the carbon substrate provides abundant pore volume for contaminant loading. The impregnation treatment enhances the conversion of H₂S to elemental sulfur and stable bound sulfides, extending service life in biogas, wastewater, and industrial vent applications where sulfur odors and corrosion risks are primary concerns.

Key Application Areas

  • Wastewater Odor Control — Treats sewerage and industrial wastewater off-gases containing H₂S and mercaptans, preventing nuisance odors and community complaints around treatment plants.
  • Acid Gas Treatment — Removes hydrogen sulfide and acidic sulfur derivatives from process vents and building exhaust, protecting infrastructure from corrosion and ensuring worker safety.
  • Oil & Gas Desulfurization — Polishes hydrocarbon gas streams and refinery vents to meet pipeline and emission specifications for total sulfur content.
  • Food Processing Odor Control — Captures sulfur-based odors from fermentation, rendering, and food waste handling without introducing contaminants into food-contact zones.
  • Chemical Processing Vents — Treats exhaust streams from sulfur-handling and chemical synthesis operations where H₂S breakthrough would create safety or compliance issues.

Key Advantage

  • Dual-Mechanism Sulfur Removal: Combines physical adsorption in the coal base with impregnation-enhanced chemisorption and catalytic oxidation, achieving higher H₂S capacity than unimpregnated alternatives.
  • High-Strength 4 mm Pellet: >90% crush strength withstands bed loading and pneumatic handling in deep fixed-bed vessels without excessive attrition or pressure drop escalation.
  • Coal Base Cost Efficiency: Bituminous coal precursor delivers robust pore development and economic pricing for large-volume gas treatment systems.
  • Broad Application Range: Effective across wastewater, oil & gas, and chemical processing environments with varying humidity and H₂S concentration profiles.

  • Q
What is the difference between SRC-A and SRC-BL?
    A

SRC-A uses a higher-activity base carbon (CTC >60%) with targeted impregnation for H₂S and light mercaptans. SRC-BL employs a blended formulation optimized for complex gas streams containing mixed sulfur species and heavier mercaptans.

  • Q
Can SRC-A handle high-humidity gas streams?
    A

Yes, though excessive moisture can reduce capacity. For saturated streams, upstream condensation control or bed preheating is recommended to maintain optimal performance.

  • Q
Is SRC-A suitable for biogas upgrading?
    A

Yes. It is commonly used for H₂S removal in anaerobic digester gas before grid injection or vehicle fuel use, often as a guard bed upstream of more selective polishing stages.

  • Q
How is spent SRC-A disposed of?
    A

Spent carbon containing sulfur compounds should be handled according to local waste regulations. In many jurisdictions, non-hazardous spent carbon can be thermally reactivated or disposed of as industrial waste.
